Park Time

One of my favorite things about our neighborhood is the park across the street. It has slides, baseball fields, football fields, the list goes on and on. Although Las Vegas is very hot in the summer, the summer nights can't be beat! (No bugs = no mosquito bites) Lucas loves being outside so after dinner we typically go on family walk to "our" park. Tonight we put our work-out clothes on, brought a soccer ball and worked up a sweat while Lucas crawled on the grass. It was a belated Family Home Evening.

To top off the night we got to Skype with my parents. It was AWESOME! It was so fun seeing them. My mom had Lucas giggling so hard, it was adorable. We can't wait to talk to them again!

I hope everyone enjoys our new blog! Our old blog was having formatting issues and after a year of trying to fix it, I gave up and started new. Plus I don't like when people go private and you don't get the memo so you are just locked out. So... this way people can still gain access!

I am also excited that we are private so I can post pictures like this! 

Since Lucas has had the Band he has been hot and sweaty. All he wants to do is crawl around in his diaper. So today I decided to whip up a few bloomers so at least he would be cute.** I informed Andy that he can still be "cute" because he is a baby. I LOVE the bloomers. I think he looks adorable. I bought some pin-stripe and gingham fabirc as well so he will be stlyin' and not so hot!

I mean really, wouldn't you want to hang out in bloomers all day in 115 degree heat? PS- I love his thighs.

Mom- I tried to get a picture of his face, but it's near impossible. He crawls away everytime I point the camera at him. 

Helmet Head

Since Lucas was 4 weeks old we have noticed that he favored his right side. Every time he was on the floor, in his carseat, in his swing, sleeping--he looked to the right. We tried EVERYTHING to reposition him so he would even out the flatness on his right side, but he was stronger. We even bought a sleep sack that Velcro'd to the mattress forcing him to be on his back. Then we safety pinned his sleep sack on the left side so he HAD to sleep on his left. He got out. 

Needless to say after much thought, prayer, research (oh the research) we have decided to get a Helmet (which is politically incorrect.... it is called a DOCband) to help out the poor guys head. 

We decided to go with Cranial Technologies  because we just felt most comfortable with them. Unfortunately, they are closing their Las Vegas office due to the economy so we will be traveling to San Diego for treatment. We just got back last night from our first trip. They took pictures of his head and did an evaluation. Here are the results:

As you can see his left side comes to a point. Where the doctor sketched is what his head will look like after treatment. On the right you can see that his ears are a few millimeters off. Lucas' head is in the "Mild to Moderate" category.

The next step in the process is the DSi. They put this nylon mask on the the baby's face and take pictures of the head. Lucas did so well! It's so interesting how it works. When you look at his head in the picture it is completely white and it shows the exact form of his head. His "Band" will fit his head perfectly, then at each check-up appointment they will shave out parts of the helmet until the head is perfect.

We go back to California in 2 weeks where he will receive his "Band" and he will have it for 3-4 months wearing it for 23 hours a day.

I have been putting this off since Lucas was born, but now it is time. We are going private on August 1!

Shea Talking

Bat Cave

Recently it has been hot. I swear every year I forget how hot Las Vegas gets.  Recently naps have been impossible and going to bed has been not as great either. Everytime I go in when Lucas is crying he is sweaty and hot. You see as much as I would like to have my air conditioning run all day to keep Lucas' room nice and cool, I don't want a an enormous power bill either. Well, today I  had enough and with Andy's help we created our own Bat Cave.

Items needed for said Bat Cave:

1.  Black out curtains:

After we hung and closed the curtains I couldn't see anything in Lucas' room. This will hopefully keep the sun from waking Lucas up in the morning and keep the heat out. (Don't worry mom I have every intention of ironing them and making them cute... but today they just needed to keep out the heat)


#2: Bat Boy

Every Bat Cave needs a Bat Boy... Luckily this one is cute!

#3: Portable Air Conditioning Unit

We tried a fan, we even tried two fans. The problem was it was just pushing around hot air. This baby makes the ultimate Bat Cave. It is called Kuuler Air... not be confused with Cooler Air. 

There you have it, our very own Bat Cave. So far, Lucas loves it and is sleeping well!

Lucas' New Tricks!

Lucas has been doing some funny things recently that I want to document.

#1: When you take a picture and ask him to smile this is what he does:

I have NO idea where this came from! He will also do this face while changing his diaper, in the car, and when talking to Biz. It cracks me up!

#2: The Froggy Position

You know he is in a deep sleep when you walk in and see his legs tucked underneath him. 

#3: Looking in the mirror

He has this mirror on his exersaucer and he LOVES to crouch down and look at himself. It is so funny. He will just stare and laugh. Notice how he is holding onto the toy behind him... He has to look at himself AND hold his toys.
