Today our little monkey turned 1 week old! It has been an eventful past few days here in the Coons household. We went to the doctors on Monday where Lucas was diagnosed with Jaundice. I realize this is a fairly typical thing to happen to babies, but I was an emotional wreck on Monday night. I just felt so badly for our little guy. I think the post-pregnancy hormones, lack of sleep and seeing him sad all combined caused all the emotions. The doctor dropped off a Bili-Blanket and instructed us to keep the light on him 24 hours a day until further notice.

We finally got the OK from the doctor this morning to take him off the light! Phew! He is still yellow, but looking much better.
This morning he was circumsized. Luckily, we weren't aloud to be in the room. We were instructed to walk around and get fresh air because he was going to cry and we would hear it if we stayed in the office. After 20 minutes we returned to the exam room and he was not crying, but as soon as I started talking he started wailing, as if saying, "Mom, where were you? I don't feel good!" It was TERRIBLE!! I fed him, swaddled him, and gave him some loves and he finally calmed down.
Here he is now all snug on the couch...

We have been asking everyone who they think this little guy looks like. I don't have a picture of Andy as a baby, but here I am in the hospital.

He definitely has my nose and lips, but the jury is still out on his eyes...
I hope Week 2 is less eventful on the sick side of things. We love our Lucas and just can't get enough of him!

I remember knowing that jaundice was normal for breastfed babies and I still totally lost it when Wren had it. There was a lot of crying. It is scary to have this teeny baby depending on you! It feels less scary the second time around, there's the good news.
Aw the poor babe! I'm sorry that you've had to deal with jaundice and the "snip snip" all in one week. I'm hoping your second week is uneventful as well. And Lucas definitely looks like you in that picture!
Lucas=You
I think babies look really cute all tanned and jaundice-like. Plus I'm pretty sure it's standard with babies in this family.
Can't wait to see you guys.
No matter how common jaundice is, when you are a new mom it seems so scary. Brooklyn had it too and had to be under the lights at the hospital and in the little suitcase at home for three days. I thought it was the end of the world. So glad to hear that he's home and off the lights! And congrats again on being a mom!
I had to sit under one of those things for jaundice too!! He is seriously the most darling baby that ever has existed. I am so happy for you guys!
Jt had Jaundice really bad.. but after a couple of weeks under the lights he was just fine... Scary all the same. Hang in there!
He is freakin cute! Congrats to you new momma...
