Jane Margaret Coons ~ March 31, 2012

We are so happy that our sweet Jane Margaret is finally here! She is the sweetest little baby and we all are just enjoying our time with her. For memory sake here is her birth story.

On Saturday March 31 I was scheduled to be induced at 7:30 AM. Of course I didn't sleep the night before dreaming of meeting our sweet girl. I woke up at 6, showered and got ready. At 7 our Minna and Bompa showed up to tend Lucas while we were gone. Right as we were heading out the door the hospital called to tell us that we needed to wait as they had too many mothers in natural labor and all elective inductions were post poned.

They said they would call as soon as they had room. I was devastated as I did not want to be pregnant a moment longer! So we had breakfast and watched conference. Then I started having consistent contractions about 7 minutes apart. We decided after lunch to just go to the hospital and see what they said.

Here I am in Triage getting monitored. The nurse told us if two of their moms delivered in the next hour we would be admitted for induction. Fortunately for us the head nurse loves my on call doctor and she wanted me to be admitted.
An hour later at 3:00 we were admitted! I was so excited. Although it wasn't really until we got into our room and the little warming bed was set up that it became "real" that we would have a baby soon. Here I am admitted... and ready to go!
They started my IV which was the worst part of the entire experience!! They had to try 5 times before they finally got it in... ouch! And it ended up in the side of my arm because it was the only vein that worked. Actually I much prefer the IV in the side of my arm, except I had two bruises on either hand from them trying.
Andy documenting that he was in fact there :)
After the IV was in they started me on Pitocin. At about 4 they broke my water and the contractions started coming. They were ok for about 30 minutes, but not strong enough to be too painful. My awesome nurse Denise turned up the Pitocin and then they started coming on strong and were 2-3 minutes apart. Andy had to stop watching March Madness and hold my hand through the contractions.

At 5:15 my new best friend the anethesiologist showed up and gave me my happy medicine! He did an awesome job and within minutes I couldn't feel a thing! Andy went back to the game and I took a little rest. Denise came in at 6:15 to check me and I was dilated to an 8! She said to page her as soon as I felt pressure and needed to push.

Sure enough at 7:00 I paged the nurses station! She and the doctor came in and the next two contractions I pushed and at 7:11 Janie girl was here weighing 7 lbs 11 oz, 20.5 inches long!
Minna, Bompa and Lucas came as soon as I started pushing. We wanted them to come see Jane before visiting hours ended at 8. Lucas could care less about the baby and just wanted to see mom. He came right in and sat on my bed.

The next day we just enjoyed our baby girl at the hospital while enjoying conference. We had a number of visitors (another post) and just couldn't believe she was finally here!

We came home late Sunday night and Lucas was so happy to have mommy and daddy home. Jane did pretty well her first night, and last night did amazing!
Today Lucas took more of a liking to Jane...
And will even give her kisses! We are making progress. Last night Andy and Lucas went on a little outing and picked out a "Big Brother" gift. Of course he wanted a "choo choo train" and has been toting it around ever since.

We love our sweet baby girl!

So glad it went well! I think it is so cute how all Lucas wanted at the hospital was his mama! Love the picture with you, Jane and Lucas!
