Mable Anne Coons ~ May 25, 2016

We got to the hospital at 7:00 am. We filled out a few forms and they immediately got us to our room. I changed into my gown and within minutes I had an IV. My doctor came in and broke my water and they checked to make sure baby was still head down, which she was. By 8 am I was on pitocin and was having contractions! This was REALLY happening! Andy kept saying, "They can't send us home, right?" I was like nope! We are having a baby! We both were still in awe that we would be having a baby, it hadn't really hit us yet. For so long we had come to terms with the fact that we would only have 2 kiddos and here we were about to have a new baby, we couldn't believe it.

At 10:30 I requested my epidural and by 11:00 I was in my happy state. My mom, sister and sister in law were all in the room and we all just hung out. I took a little nap and when I woke up one of my awesome nurses said she was a little concerned baby wasn't completely in position. She said that with breech babies they don't have as much time to get completely in position so she started putting me on one side and then after about 15-20 minutes she would flip me to the other. At 2:15 I was feeling pressure so we started some practice pushes, meanwhile my nurse would turn the baby so she was head down. I am convinced if it hadn't been for nurse Christie I would have ended up in a c-section. She knew exactly what to do so baby was ready to come.

At 2:30 they called the doctor as I was fully dilated. They gave me a extra dose in my epidural and Andy walked over and said "What are we going to name the baby?" We started going over all the names we had been discussing and combining all different names. We had briefly discussed Mable here and there, but never really thought much of it. Mable was my great-grandma. My entire life my family has said that I was just like my Grandma Mable. It wasn't until in the delivery room when we were discussing that Andy said, what about Mable Anne? Immediately I knew that was her name. May 25th is Andy's sister Kelly's birthday and her middle name is Anne. It just seemed perfect to use Anne, and I just knew in that moment Mable Anne was her name.

I'm not sure what time, but my mother in law came in during this crazy time of pushing. She had driven down that morning and we were so happy she made it before the baby was born.

At 2:40 the doctor came in and suited up. I started pushing and quite literally nothing was happening. I was pushing my hardest and she just wasn't moving. I remember thinking she is never going to come and I can't do this. I am pretty sure I even said that out loud. At that point my nurse and doctor decided to turn my epidural off so that I could really feel the pain and it would motivate me to push harder (I was unaware of this until after baby was born). The next 20 minutes I pushed and pushed and remember it was really painful and how my other deliveries weren't that painful. I wanted to stop, but just then her head came out and everyone in the room started cheering. My doctor said, "Just one more big push and you're done" and sure enough before I knew it she was out! They put her on my stomach and we all couldn't believe how big she was! And she had the chubbiest little cheeks!

They took her over to the warming bed and starting cleaning her off. Her little cries were so sweet! I just sat and cried (gosh those hormones!) and was so happy to have it over and to know that she was here safe and sound.

They weighed her and sure enough she was 10 pounds 2 ounces. After they had measured and cleaned her I was able to hold her and do skin to skin. It was perfect. She is perfect!  We announced her name to our family and just sat and looked at her. A couple hours later Andy left to go get the kids and my mom went and got Baja Fish Tacos (YUM!).

Once I was in recovery Andy brought the kids... they were SO excited to meet Mable.

We are all so in love with Mable! She is so sweet and hardly cries. It is more of a "Squawk". Everyone wants to hold her and she is seldom put down. We are just so grateful that we were blessed with this sweet baby. I can't believe tomorrow will have been 2 weeks that she was born, already time is going by too fast.
